Digitisation of the ceramics collection in the Museo della Ceramica Giuseppe Roi
The project to digitalise a significant part of the ceramics collection in the Museo della Ceramica Giuseppe Roi at Palazzo Sturm has drawn to a close. It was carried out under the European project Hephaestus, which promotes cultural heritage using innovative tools and digital technology. The work involved 512 ceramic pieces selected using strict scientific and conservation criteria. A detailed photographic record of the works was compiled, and 415 catalogue entries were created; these can now be viewed online in the catalogue of the Musei Civici di Bassano del Grappa, at the link.
The project made it possible to create high-resolution digital copies, which are essential for documenting and promoting the collections. The photographs were taken by the photographer Alessandro Molinari, while the catalogue entries were compiled by Marco Maria Polloniato, a scholar of traditional Venetian ceramics.
The digitised artefacts can also be viewed on the Europeana platform, Europe’s leading portal dedicated to digital cultural heritage. It provides greater opportunities for access, study and research for scholars, students and the international public.
The project, carried out in collaboration with CulturaItalia and ICCD – Istituto Centrale per il Catalogo e la Documentazione, is included in the objectives of the 2022–2026 Piano Nazionale di Digitalizzazione del patrimonio culturale [National Plan for the Digitisation of Cultural Heritage] and reconfirms the role of the Musei Civici di Bassano del Grappa as a centre of excellence for research, conservation and cultural innovation.
The project to digitise the ceramics collection was funded by the HEPHAESTUS project, ID 101095123, Horizon Europe Framework Programme, European Union.
