On 27 October 2023, the Museo Civico of Bassano del Grappa will open the monumental rooms of its main floor to the public, whose exhibition spaces, didactic media and signposting have been renovated. The new layout takes its lead from the arrangements adopted for the exhibitions Io, Canova. Genio europeo and I Bassano. Storia di una famiglia di pittori. The upgrade gives the museum a new look, some 30 years after the last reorganisation. The renewal will enable the Museo Civico to meet the demands of the public and bring it in line with the standards of the most important national and international institutions, such that it is able to offer visitors an improved and more enjoyable experience.

Thanks to the project of the Studio Antonio Ravalli Architetti, the exhibition spaces have been reconceived and provided with a new colour scheme, new lighting and new display equipment that gives each work of art its due in an experience rich in novelties and surprises. Innovations include a new room devoted to exhibitions of masterpieces of drawing, works which are typically not viewable by the public but which the museum ranks among the highlights of its collection. In addition, the displays have been enhanced by in-depth looks at artists, themes and subjects of particular interest.

Visitors will have the opportunity to admire over 250 works, including the masterpieces of painting by Jacopo Bassano and his famous workshop. The Museo Civico indeed holds the most wide-ranging and most important collection of his works in the world. The museum further boasts an extraordinary assortment of sculptures, paintings, drawings and documents of the sculptor Antonio Canova, which offers the public a chance to become better acquainted with his genius and surprising creative process.

The renovated exhibition rooms will further highlight works of the some of the great masters who left their marks on the history of art from the Middle Ages to the 20th century; these artists include Guariento, Lorenzo Lotto, Artemisia Gentileschi, Giambattista Tiepolo, Alessandro Magnasco and Francesco Hayez. In addition, the new display will present works from the storerooms which have not been exhibited before as well as several pieces on loan.
