About two weeks after the opening of the Sebastião Salgado. Photographs from the Maison Européenne de la Photographie collection, Paris scheduled at the Museo Civico of Bassano del Grappa from 24 October 2026 to 4 April 2027, the city dedicates to the great Brazilian photographer a screening that invites the viewer to approach his work through the most human and personal dimension of his journey.

On Thursday, 8 October at 8:30 pm, at the Metropolis Cinemas of Bassano del Grappa, The salt of the earth will be screened, the documentary through which director Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado, the photographer's eldest son, retrace the human and artistic story of Sebastião Salgado through the places, trips and experiences that have marked his research.

Not a conventional portrait of the artist, but a story in which Salgado's voice and the comparison with his images bring to the surface what stays implicit in the image: the genesis of the shot, the experience that precedes it, the reasons for the look. Salgado thus returns to the places, meetings and events that marked his path, reliving, between memory and images, the pain of the world and, together, its shocking beauty. The photographs thus overlap with the human dimension from which they originated and the viewer enters the story that precedes, accompanies and follows the shot.

Following the institutional greetings and the screening, Barbara Guidi, Director of the Civic Museums of Bassano del Grappa, will speak with Marco Dalla Gassa, Professor of Cinema and Visual Cultures at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. The meeting, led by journalist Alessandro Comin, will accompany the audience in an in-depth study dedicated to the artist, the exhibition and the relationship between cinema and photography.
