From 6 December 2025 to 1 March 2025, the Musei Civici of Bassano del Grappa present ‘Free Solo’, a monographic exhibition featuring a selection of works by Riccardo ‘Rik’ Guasco (Alessandria, 1975). This Italian illustrator and painter combines poetry and humour in an aesthetic that borrows from the great masters of Italian and French advertising poster art. 

Drawing inspiration from movements like Cubism and Futurism, Riccardo Guasco has designed works for advertising campaigns, newspapers, books, packaging and posters using simple lines and basic colours. He has worked with the most famous newspapers and some of the most important Italian and international brands, such as The New Yorker, Eni, Moby, Longines, Rai, Poste Italiane, Peroni and Eataly. He was also the official cover artist for La Repubblica’s magazine ‘il Gusto’, illustrator for the Teatro Comunale in Bologna and winner of the ‘ILLUSTRI 2019’ award and silver medal at the ‘Annual Award AI’ in 2017 and 2020, and selected for the 58th Exhibition of the ‘Society of Illustrators’ in New York.

The exhibition ‘Free solo’ is curated by Riccardo Toffanin and open to the public on the main floor of the Museo Civico of Bassano del Grappa. Around twenty works celebrate the combination of sport and mountains, accompanied by four previously unseen lithographs created specifically for the exhibition ‘Giovanni Segantini’: a tribute to one of the artists who best captured the mountains as a physical and emotional place. 

The exhibition is part of the city of Bassano del Grappa’s tribute to Segantini’s talent, and will coincide with the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Games. It joins the long series of exhibitions of ancient and contemporary graphic art organised by the Musei Civici. An art that looks to the past to combine the modern dynamism of sport with the immortal majesty of the Alpine peaks. 

The artist, Riccardo ‘Rik’ Guasco, will also be there in the exhibition hall in person, on Saturday 6 December 2025 from 3pm to 5pm, to explore the works on exhibit along with the public, and explain the creative process behind each illustration.
