Architect out of time
The exhibition proposes, for the first time, the graphic masterpieces of Giambattista Piranesi, part of the museum's collections. A collection that includes 19 loose engravings and many others enclosed in 16 volumes to which is added, for the occasion, 16 precious engravings of the Carceri d'Invenzione from the Giorgio Cini Foundation of Venezia. 

The city of Bassano del Grappa has chosen to homage the geni of Piranesi on the occasion of his third centenary since his birth (4th October 1720). His graphic heritage is exposed on the fourth and fifth floors of Palazzo Sturm. The engravings will be placed in steel and glass showcases, designed to preserve the conservation of the engravings.  
 
For the first time, Civic Museums of Bassano del Grappa will expose the complete corpus of piranesian engravings part of its permanent collections. It includes some of the most famous Vedute di Roma and four tomes of Antichità Romane: masterpieces in which Piranesi depicts ancient monuments and exposes the fulcrum of his archaeological vision. In his etchings, the decadence of Rome is exalted in its terrible beauty with a visionary chargeable to exercise a very important artistic reference for contemporary culture.
